As reported by Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge J. Juechter, the ZR1 lapped the Nürburgring in just 7 minutes, 26.4 seconds which is roughly 19 seconds quicker than the Z06's time of 7:43.  The time is also 2 seconds quicker than the fastest time posted by the Nissan GT-R so Corvette fans have reason to celebrate...at least until the GT-R Spec V comes out.  It's get better though.  The time was ran by General Motors development engineer Jim Mero so you can bet the ZR1 will run an even faster time in the near future at the hands of a professional.

According to the Sun, a Bugatti Veyron and Ferrari 599 GTB Foriano were spotted street racing at speeds close to 140mph.  Spectators reported the race lasted for 10 minutes with the 2 supercars jockeying back and forth for position.  The race ended when the police finally caught up and the Veyron decided to pull over.  The Ferrari got away thanks in part to its lack of front license plates.  The punishment for the Veyron, a mere $120 ticket since they clocked it at "only" 97 mph.  Anyone else feel like playing Need For Speed Hot Pursuit right now?

Ferrari brings us more pictures of the California.  This time in blue and with the top up.  It may just be the metal roof but the car just seems a little too Mercedes SL like to me.

According to Inside Line, the base price for the Lexus LF-A will be over $200,000 and possibly as high as $225,000.  When Lexus said they were gunning for Ferrari and Lamborghini, I don't think anyone thought they meant the price tag.  All I can say is Lexus better have produced one of the best cars ever made if they think they can compete at that price, especially with the Nissan GT-R offering similar performance at less than half of that.

The speculation is finally over and worries of an entry level Ferrari placed below the F430 can officially be put to rest.  The new Ferrari California will sit above the F430 in Ferrari's lineup and is the first hard-top convertible ever produced by Ferrari.  It will feature a Mid-Front V8 putting out 460HP and a 0-60MPH of under 4 seconds.   Loose those Lexus IS-F tailpipes and the very conservative wheels and Ferrari definitely has another winner here.

According to Autocar.co.uk, Mclaren is working on not one but two new super cars which are expected to debut over the next few years.  The first will be a Ferrari F430 competitor featuring a 500+ horsepower V8 and will be codenamed the P11.  It will be available as both a coupe and a spider with the coupe arriving in showrooms in 2010 and the spider following a year later.    The second will feature a 600+ horsepower V10 and most likely be the long-awaited successor to the legendary Mclaren F1.  Unfortunately, we'll have to wait till 2011 for that one.
